Autonomous Flow Monitoring Stations
This 2 year flow monitoring study aims to establish the amount of water losses that occur throughout the delivery of water supplies to the East Bear Creek Unit. Flow data are collected at 4 solar powered acoustic Doppler flow monitoring stations along the creek.
The remote sites are visited every 3 months for data retrieval, site inspection, and maintenance. Several measures are made in order to preserve the integrity of flow data including:
- Pre-installation surveying of cross sectional geometries
- Additional surveying after events such as severe rainstorms which erode banks and result in significant alteration of channel geometry
- River Surveyor and Flow Tracker discharge measurements for sensor flow validation and velocity indexing
- Updating sensor configurations with the latest firmware, channel geometry, and velocity index coefficients.
